The stairs to the sky
The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1682, and the magnificent inauguration of the iconic spire took place in 1752 by Frederik 5.
This spire, adorned with a twisted staircase on the outside, proudly rises 90 meters above the city and has been a symbol of Copenhagen's skyline for centuries. Visitors can climb the 400 steps, of which 150 are on the outside, and enjoy a unique panoramic view of the city. Inside, the church offers an impressive interior with lavish decorations and detailed carpentry work.
The church also houses a number of beautiful frescoes, an impressive organ facade, and decorative elephants, symbols of Denmark's highest order, the Order of the Elephant.
Vor Frelsers Kirke is not only a religious site but also a cultural and historical icon that attracts visitors from around the world with its unique architecture and fascinating history.
